Dr. Lisa Baron, MD
Dr. Lisa Baron is the Medical Director of Colorado Joint and Spine Institute where she collaborates closely and frequently with other physicians, chiropractors, and physical therapists in running the Institute’s comprehensive and minimally invasive program for treating osteoarthritis of the knee. This program has a history of being overwhelmingly successful in reducing or, in some cases, eliminating the patient’s pain and returning them to a more productive and fulfilling life.
Dr. Baron was thrilled to join Colorado Joint and Spine Institute and head up the team of medical professionals that run the specialized program treating osteoarthritis of the knee(s) – an increasingly prevalent medical problem. We are seeing a significant rise in physician visits for this particular problem which afflicts a variety of patients including our aging population, U.S. Veterans and Active Duty Soldiers, patients who have developed degenerative joints from years of heavy sports participation, etc.
The primary factors that drive this treatment program’s high success rate is our multiple modality, patient-focused approach, minimally invasive treatment procedures including viscosupplementation therapy, and the commitment of our medical professionals to work together and optimize each patient’s outcome. We hope to develop similar programs in the future for treating other painful joint conditions.
Dr. Baron is a Board Certified Family Physician who not only worked as a Family Practitioner, but also as an Urgent Care provider, and in Occupational Medicine prior to joining CJSI. She has had additional medical training in various areas of particular interest including joint and trigger point injections with and without the use of a fluoroscope. She has years of experience performing these injections in a variety of practice settings.
Her first career was as a professional ballet dancer. She trained in classical ballet at Ft. Lauderdale Ballet Classique. Her first contract to dance professionally was as a soloist with Ballet Mississippi. She then joined the Corps de Ballet of Milwaukee Ballet before a number of injuries resulted in an early retirement from ballet.
When she was deciding on what to pursue as a second career, she knew that she wanted to work in a field that she could be as passionate about as ballet, one that was as challenging and that had the same “team” approach. A career in medicine seemed to offer all of these things and more.
Dr. Baron graduated Cum Laude from Hunter College in New York City where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She went on to receive her M.D. from St. George’s University School of Medicine in 2000. In 2004, Dr. Baron completed her internship and residency in Family Practice at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She served as Chief Resident during her last year of training.
In her free time, Dr. Baron spends the majority of her time doing activities or relaxing with her two sons – ages 10 and 8. They enjoy many sports and outdoor activities together including biking, hiking, swimming, skateboarding, skating, soccer and baseball. Dr. Baron often coaches their soccer and little league teams. She still takes dance classes and attends ballet performances when she can. Since she was young, Dr. Baron has devoted much of her quiet time to different forms of art. Currently she enjoys scrapbooking, art quilting and colored pencil painting. [top]
